À propos
A geological basin in which stagnant water, made acidic by contact with Vosges sandstone, has gradually been colonized by particular plants, sphagnum moss. A natural and historical heritage Closer to home, the contemporary history of the peat bog follows that of human activities. Until 1949, no major changes were observed on the site. In 1977, some open areas appeared, indicating probable deforestation. 1979 coincides with the creation of the three ponds and the appearance of the landfill. In 1988, further deforestation took place, while the landfill expanded... The rest is to be written. And twenty years later, it is the very future of the site that is in question. A future that the partnership agreement signed between the municipality of Bertrichamps and the General Council of Meurthe-et-Moselle aims to preserve in the name of natural and historical heritage.
The tourbière de la Basse Saint-Jean has no equivalent in Meurthe-et-Moselle. A site as fragile as it is remarkable, with a history dating back 1,500 years.... More than 500 species observed, including about 30 of heritage interest, all on only 47 hectares and close to your home!
listed in NATURA 2000 and Sensitive Natural Space.
